Heat Embossing 101

Ever wondered how to add gorgeous texture to your crafts? Stylish embossing is something you can achieve at home, with just a few crafty essentials!

Embossed designs are produced using your favorite stamps, plus a special ink, and special powder.  Once the designs are stamped in the ink, the area is covered with embossing powder, which melts when heated to create a wonderfully embossed finish! It’s a great technique utilized by paper crafters everywhere.

Let’s look at the process:

Step 1:
Ink your stamp with embossing ink, then stamp onto cardstock. You can use embossing ink, or pigment stamping ink—both are slow-drying. I will be showing both - clear powder on black pigment ink & colored powder on clear embossing ink.

Step 2:
Place the stamped piece onto scrap paper. Immediately sprinkle embossing powder onto the image. You’ll want to work quickly, while the ink is still wet. You can be generous with the embossing powder!

Step 3:
Tap off the excess embossing powder. Return excess powder to the jar.

Step 4:
Use a heat tool to melt the embossing powder. Turn the embossing tool on, then warm it up for few seconds before using it on your project. Place the stamped piece onto a heat-resistant surface like wood, a glass mat or craft sheet, then move heat slowly over the embossed piece. You’ll see the powder melting and becoming raised and shiny. Take care not to overheat the piece.

Keep the jar of powder away from heat tool to avoid powder blowing everywhere!

Video Tutorial - Mass Producing Diecuts Technique EVERY CARDMAKER Must Know

Hi, this is Princy for Kraftgali.com

I am SO excited about Mama Elephant's collaboration with Hampton Art launching these Mini Agenda stamp and die sets featuring some of Mama Elephant's most popular images. I have used Mini Boy Agenda set for today's project.

I stamped all these images using Versafine Onyx black ink & did some easy quick coloring using zig clean color real brush pens, these are small images so did not require any special color blending skills, just some basic coloring here today.

For the sweet rainbow background - I used distress inks in 6 colors - the number of colors needed for blending depends on the size of blending tool - for an A2 size card & mini blending tool - 5 or max 6 colors should be okay.

  • Mustard seeds
  • Cracked pistachio
  • Abandoned coral
  • Picked raspberry
  • Spiced marmalade
  • Peacock feathers

To add some extra sine I added Tattered Angels glimmer mist in pearl color. For the front panel used A2 grid panel die from waffle flower for creating window frames! Assembled everything together and the final card is ready.

I am pretty happy with how the final card turned out. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for visiting!

xx

Build A Gingerbread House Card!

Hi friends,

I created today's card using Hero Arts Gingerbread Stamp & Cut set. I originally saw this cute Gingerbread House card idea at the Hero Arts website, so I thought I would try it myself!

Started with blending Iced Spruce distress oxide ink pad using an ink blending tool over a 4.25" * 5.5" white cardstock. White Gansai Tambi paint was flicked over this cardstock with a small paintbrush and set aside to completely dry. Once dry, snowflakes from the Gingerbread Stamp & Cut and trees from the Home For the Holidays stamp set were stamped with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with White Detail Embossing Powder.

A 1.25" x 5.5" strip of white cardstock was adhered along the bottom edge of the gray sky background. The sentiment "From Our home to yours HAPPY Holidays" from the Gingerbread Stamp & Cut  was stamped with Black Ink along the white border.

The two Gingerbread House Stamp & Cut houses and the gingerbread men were stamped on smooth white cardstock with Black Ink, colored in with Prismacolor pencils, and die cut the images before adhering them to the scene with foam adhesive squares for a bit of dimension. Added some highlights using a White gel pen over the colored images.

The card was finished with some sparkle using Wink Of Stella on these colored images.

Please leave us a comment, if you like this card. Your comments mean a lot to us and encourage us to keep sharing.

Hope you are having a great festive season. If you are still working this holiday season, I hope you make it through it with a smile on your face and a song in your heart. If you are not, enjoy your well-deserved rest!

Have fun and til next time happy crafting!
Enjoy!
